You say you have the previous camera database that worked. Do you just wish to install the latest camera database (for which you don’t need POI Capture)?
Do you wish to install POI Capture to record the details of cameras and to send those details in to us at PocketGPSWorld?
Could you tell us what equipment you are using (i.e. PocketPC, TomTom Navigator version, etc)?

Hi pitch3110,
If you have already used the PocketGPSWorld camera database then you just download the new version and copy the .OV2 files of your choice to the map folder on your storage card and overwrite the previous .OV2 files.
There are some guides that should be read (in the following order):
The beginner’s guide to the PocketGPSWorld camera database.
This explains about the different camera types and about categories and subcategories, so that you can decide how you want the database on your unit.
Depending on whether you have TomTom Navigator on a Pocket PC or TomTom GO, please read either:
How to install (camera database) POIs to TomTom Navigator 5.
This guide explains how to load the PocketGPSWorld camera database onto a Pocket PC running TomTom Navigator 5.
How to install (camera database) POIs onto a TomTom GO, Rider, or One.
This guide explains how to load the PocketGPSWorld camera database onto your TomTom GO, Rider, or One.
Once you have installed, set up, and used the PocketGPSWorld camera database for a while on your TomTom SatNav system. You may want to share and send in details of cameras yourself. You can do this by using the PocketGPSWorld POI Capture utility:
The PocketGPSWorld POI Capture utility.
You do not need the PocketGPSWorld POI Capture utility on your TomTom SatNav system in order to use the PocketGPSWorld camera database. However if you want to send in camera details then POI Capture makes the process of recording cameras much easier on TomTom Navigator and GO (original, 300, 500, and 700). At the moment POI Capture will not work with TomTom Rider, One, and mobile. This is for a technical reason, which we hope, will soon be rectified by TomTom.
The above guides may look lengthy and complicated when first seen. However if you grab a cup of coffee and read each one thoroughly then they should make sense as they have been written in a step-by-step way, for ease of reading.

Hi pitch3110,
Glad that you’re all sorted.
Have you got both the PocketGPSWorld camera database and POI Capture installed on your XDA IIi?

I’ve just noticed the above. I hope that you were sent the camera database for free and that you weren’t charged for it (i.e. by some lowlife on eBay)?

Hi Paul,
You don't need POI Capture to use the PocketGPSWorld camera database ...
... however, if you spot a new camera then it's very easy to use POI Capture to record all of the attributes of that camera. It's also easy to submit the cameras via the website.
The more people that have POI Capture installed, the more people that can send in updates and thus keep our database as accurate as possible.

I have not had good experience with camera poi capture from other camera database suppliers. It seems that they did not check the data out and just loaded the cameras, false or otherwise, onto the database. This meant that you got so many false alarms the whole database became quite useless and I stopped using them. I then discovered Pocket GPS.
To date I have found the database at P GPS W to be excellent so I hope that the database will not become corrupted with false input. |
