Hi Guys,

For the last six months I have had an iPaq hp2210 pda with TomTom 5 Navigator on it. Well I don’t any longer as some toe*ag has nicked it Evil or Very Mad Unfortunately, the 2210 is not made any longer and I cannot find a replacement with a CF slot. I particularly chose the 2210 having read on this forum the problems between iPaqs and TT5 maps on SD.

Do later iPaqs behave themselves or do I need to look at another make?

Many thanks.

Thanks Dave! It is no longer on HP's site and the store I bought it from, Micro Anvika, told me that it was no longer in stock and to buy its replacement; the 2490. The 2490 is £315 as opposed to the £215 I paid for the 2210!! 8O Having said that, it might not be a good idea to buy a product on its death bed.

Hi Countryman

I'm so attached to my 2210 that I got another as a spare. Seems to be a robust machine - never given me any probs. Got the second one on eBay for £165, hardly used. Give it a try - plus check out the HP Store on eBay too - occasionally bargains on handhelds.

I'd have to agree, I love my 2210 and haven't seen anything that is as reliable and has both SD an CF.

However, Dell have some popular solutions worth investigating.

The 2210 has always been a winner, the 2490 has the same features with WM5 so you wont loose the data if your battery goes flat. Do you have satnav that would have to be installed on the new PDA?

Try ebay. I have just bought a second HP2210 on ebay for £175.00 that has had little use and came with extras. If you are not in a rush, some good ones can be found with very little usage. Best buys seem to be auctions ending on weekday or at night - avoid auctions ending on Saturday or Sunday as you will pay extra.

Guys,

Thanks very much for your help and advice. I have now claimed under my Home Insurance (thanks Border_Collie). Unfortunately, I was unable to source a 2210 (thanks for the suggestion Dave/Oddsock) but the insurance company have agreed to pay for the nearest equivalent which is the 2410. However, it now seems that this too is discontinued and is becoming rapidly unavailable. 8O (What is going on at HP!) Instead, we now have the 2490. The only big difference is the change of operating system from Pocket PC 2003 2nd Edition to Windows Mobile 5.0. However, I also use my GPS & PDA for walking in France and have invested in Bayo’s CartoExploreur3. It certainly works on Pocket PC WindowsCE but will it work on WM5.0?

there is a good chance it wont without a patch contact where you bought the software.

What about a 2110? I've got one of those as well as a 2210 and it's quite similar to the 2210, e.g. Bluetooth, SD, CF.

Nej,

I thought about the 2110, but for not much more money you can have WiFi on the 2490. Almost all of our internal company communication world-wide is now via broadband courtesy of Skype. The 2490 has a decently fast processor and WiFi. However, this opens up a whole new can of worms with the problems of the internal microphone. Might have to consider another make!
