|
|
OK, I have around 300 customers who I want to put on my 300 as poi's. I have their postcodes as xls in 2 columns i.e. "AB10" in column A & "3DN" in column B. Any way for me to bulk convert to log & lat for creating an ov2 file.
I use a mac & pc so can use any software.
Thanks all |

Hi,
You can try visiting http://ukpostcodes.boldlygoingnowhere.org/, it accepts a csv list of names and postcodes and produces a list in the right format for input into ov2tools.
It wont allow 300 in one hit but will allow you to process 50 at a time so thats only 6 batches.
I have no idea of your level in excell so apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs!
You will need to convert your 2 column output into a single column though, in your worksheet use an empty column and do something like "=concatenate(<cellref for start of postcode>,<cellref for end of postcode>)" in the first row then copy and paste it to all the remaining rows that will put them all into a single field.
Then save the 2 columns you want to convert (say customer-name and the postcode) as a csv file. Alternatively save it as text and manipulate in notepad/vi/whatever. _________________ Apologies to all my supporting users, the http://ukpostcodes.boldlygoingnowhere.org/ postcode converter has now been retired.
The ubiquity of full postcode lookups has made it somewhat redundant. I still have the code if anyone needs it. |

Not a great deal to say really, google have made an API available which enables anyone (even muppets like me) to generate maps with locations plotted on them.
When you submit a batch of postcodes to the http://ukpostcodes.boldlygoingnowhere.org/ site, it converts the postcodes into waypoints and as well as returning the results to you it plots them on a map so you can check where they online are before you even download them to your tom-tom. This means you can verify that they appear where you expect.
if you point your browser at http://ukpostcodes.boldlygoingnowhere.org/maps/1128936507.html you can see a sample map with three waypoints, click on one, zoom in/out, click and drag whatever. This is a sample map to show what is created. If you submit a batch of your own waypoints you will be returned a URL to a map displaying whatever you submitted.
Re: excel; glad to be of help..... next you will be asking me how to remove all the duplicate records in an access database _________________ Apologies to all my supporting users, the http://ukpostcodes.boldlygoingnowhere.org/ postcode converter has now been retired.

That should work with most browsers......if it doesnt let me know, it means I have more coding to do! _________________ Apologies to all my supporting users, the http://ukpostcodes.boldlygoingnowhere.org/ postcode converter has now been retired.
