Anybody had problems backing up the TT700 to their computer? Tried manual method as suggested by TT Support Folk, but system freezes on cline.dat file in the Western Maps folder.

When you say freezes..how long does it take to freeze, as I just backed mine up this morning before installing the new update, and it paused at around the 80% mark for approx 25 mins, then continued and backed up successfully. _________________ TomTomGo700

The 700 takes about 1 hour to backup on a USB 1 computer and under 10 minutes on a USB 2 computer.
I have had no problem with the USB 1 backup, but the USB 2 backup on my Apple Mac kept failing. It seems that the 5.42 upgrade has solved this problem.
cline, cnode and faces are the three big files and that will take the longest to download - over 90% of the whole download together. So on USB 1 a 25 minute wait for cline to download would be about right. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

It froze after about an hour. Did you use the standard TT backup software or did you do a manual backup through XP? |

I tried both - neither worked on a USB 2 Mac. But I got a hang on a very small .bmp file. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Mmm. Well encouraged by the replies, I had another go. After 1Hour 20mins the TT software reported that it was unable to do the backup/restore. It seemed to get 'stuck' at the 85% complete (on status bar) prior to that message.
I'm using a new build computer with USB2, running XP Home. No other programs or software were used during the attempted backup. |

Have you tried doing it by drag and drop? And then, say, a few files at a time? I don't use the TT software for backup, only for the system updates and map updates. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

I was using the TT software, using Windows Me. _________________ TomTomGo700

Well I think I've tried about everything, one file at a time (i.e. doing it manually) , but it is the cline.dat file that causes the problems. The exact error message I'm getting from XP is:
Cannot copy cline: The request cannot be performed because of an I/O device error.
I've tried another (2) USB 1 & 2 cables to the TT700 to see if it was a cable 'issue' - but am still getting the same error message.

Heard from TT Support who said to try on another PC. Did this - got the same error messages. However full marks go to Dixons who replaced the unit without question, and also to TT Support team who sent RMA codes etc for return/repair of the unit.
Thanks all for helping. |

And the final note to the saga is that the new TT backed up in less than 5 mins.
My thanks finally to PocketGPSWorld for hosting the site. Good job! |
