What would be the cheapest setup for a complete beginner. Not the all in one's, but a pda + gps adapter + software?
the Mio 168 - includeds GPS, works out at ~ £200
the Dell Axim X30 is ~ £150 but needs GPS (but has WiFi which is nice)
but, to me the best deal looks...
the HP iPAQ rz1710 at ~ £120 but again needs GPS
the cheapest GPS receiver is about £50? And the cheapest software seems to be memery map.
this info look right, or can anyone recommend anything else? _________________ Afton bladet (Sweden) 'Were Liverpool worthy champions? What do you mean? The Mio looks great value thanks. (not sure about intergrated gps since it looks a bit cumbersome), but thats a good price. Hi s79,
What do you want to do with the software? Memory Map is NOT a car navigation package, it has Ordnance Survey maps in electronic form (and costs up to £200 for the whole of the UK).
Similarly, it depends what you want to do with the PPC; I believe the HP iPAQ rz1710 has rather limited memory. PPCs with built in GPS will tend to be more bulky. If you don't have a built-in GPS, will you connect it by Bluetooth or a cable? Another possibility is a PPC with SD and Compact Flash card slots with a CF GPS and SD memory card (or vice versa), but IMHO Bluetooth is the most flexible option.
The cheapest full bundle (car navigation package) is probably the Acer N35, but I'd also look at the Mio/Navmans (note the basic Mio comes without software). However, some Navmans have embedded navigation software so can't be used as a PPC.
Destinator (3) doesn't really compare with TomTom, but it has quite an active forum if you need any help.
I wa salso looking at an addition system (the cheapest possible) as my monther wanted a basic all in one / cheap pda + nav solution.
What I will do, is get my HP iPAQ 4150 setup (when I buy it) and then see how I like it. I may decided to sell it on to her, or get a similar sysytem.
Thanks for the info. _________________ Afton bladet (Sweden) 'Were Liverpool worthy champions? What do you mean? I see Xabi Alonso dance, Steven Gerrard weep and 45,000 people sing You'll never walk alone . The question is not whether they were worthy. The question is whether we were worthy to
