Assuming that your Baud rate is a typo and you meant 4800, your settings are correct.
Sorry I can't help with the other problem. |

It should be 4800 on Com 2, make sure the unit is outside and has a clean line of sight to the sky, it should take 15 min (ish) and then it wil work - Mike |

Sorry,
Yes, 4800 on com 2 is what i've used.
I left it on the patio for 20 minutes then drove for 15 mins and got a fix for abot 30 seconds.
Had it for 24 hours. After installing software its worked for 3 mins. I'm in Birmingham UK so would expect a good signal? |

It says in the bumf that comes with it that it should take 15 minutes from a cold start. Is a cold start where you have clicked the battery off switch on the back.
In fact, how do you turn the unit off. Do you just let it go into standby then turn it back on using the switch on the side.
I discovered to my dismay that if I do click the battery off all f my info is lost includingt the smart st program itself. Is there anyway to stop this happening?
If I still cant get a fix - is it broken? |

Shutting down by the switch on the back is not a good idea because it shuts everything down as you have found out. The power off button on the side is the one to use, and it's probably a good idea if you shut down the running applications as well.
I have found that is is best to let it get a fix before heading off anywhere. It takes longer to find itself when it's constantly moving. I don't think mine has ever taken longer than about 5-6 minutes to get a fix when it has good visibility of the skies so you might have a problem. I don't recognise the software you are running so it might be something with this rather than the unit. |

Hi,
I think you might just have a faulty unit but you can check to see if you can get a sat fix by installing the GPS viewer software on the PDA. If you can get a fix using this software then your unit is working fine & it will be your sat nav software that is not working or has the wrong settings.
Cant find a link but will mail you the prog if you send me a mail
ghuntfor6@yahoo.co.uk
I have never waited more than a few mins to get a fix. |
