How have the rest of you out there found the Mio 268? Any problems, how do you find service?
We have a Mio 268, which had a 2 year warrenty, now about 10 months old. After about 4 months it would occasionally fail to read from a card when switched on (map card or card used only for MP3's). Switch off and on and it would read OK. Started getting progressively worse till no amount of turning on and off would result in the card being read.
Phone up, get return number, send back for repair with full description of problem, returned with note saying "motherboard replaced". Plug in map card, failed to read. Repeat with MP3 card, failed to read. Clearly problem not fixed.
Phone up, get another return number, send back for repair with full description of problem, returned with note saying "motherboard replaced". Plug in map card, failed to read. Repeat with MP3 card, failed to read. Check MP3 card with PC, no problem with card!
Speak to Mio, "there have been a number of problems with units failing to read from the cards".
Get third return number, send back for repair with full description of problem, returned with note saying "motherboard replaced". Plug in map card, failed to read. Repeat with MP3 card, failed to read. Speak to repair centre "nothing wrong with unit Sir, checked with our PC, no problem". "Did you check ability of unit to read card?" "I'm sorry Sir, we don't do that, we only test it against our PC". WHAT A FARCE. You tell them repeatedly what the problem is and they don't/won't check it out.
This saga is not over yet!
I'd just be interested to know of other peoples experiences.
If asked for a recommendation for a Mio unit what should I say (answers on a postcard please .......) |
