Hi

I have been using this forum to sort out all my problems since upgrading to tomtom 5.1 such as bluetooth and post code issues. I dont think it would have been possible to sort out without the forum.

However I have one problem which is really frustrating which is when I start tomtom without a GPS receiver, the application is painfully slow and unuseable.

As soon as the GPS receiver is found then everything is ok. In tomtom 5 this was not a problem and only seems to be an issue with 5.1.

Do I really have to have the receiver on all the time for tomtom to work?

Please help me!!
Thanks

Hi Mike thanks for the reply.

Most of what I have done has come from your knowledge!!

The O2 business user to get rid of Active is fantastic but just wondered if you had any other ideas. The only thing I have not done yet is upgrade the rom but as everything was ok in tomtom 5 I am completely foxed.

Thanks again.

I had no problems on the IIs using TT5 appart from the lack of an on screen keyboard when using postcodes. When I upgraded to version 5,1 everything just worked no problem. The ROM upgrade does load up a far better bluetooth stack but it also loads in Blackberry functionality - well worth it if you haven't done it yet (It might be a coincidence but since doing the upgrade the icon for the GPRS connection has changed to G - and the internet connection is faster when mobile - I thought this was hardware but might be wrong).
Back to the specific question, is it a wired GPS unit or Bluetooth that you are using? and what settings have you selected for it to opperate? - cheers - Mike

Mike,

I am using a bluetooth GPS and it is setup exactly as your post you directed me to.

I think though that I may have cracked it as when I turn the XDA into flight mode this is when the software with no GPS active goes slow. After testing today with the phone operating it seems to run ok.

Any chance you could try the same? Just to see if that is the case.

Thanks for your help.

If you put the phone in to flight mode it will turn ALL the radio transmitters off this includes BT and WI-FI, so with a BT GPS unit it won't work, I gave up with the BT GPS combined with the IIs and reverted back to a wired set-up, my unit does work with BT but I found it dropped the BT connection when terminating a call on the BT hands free kit. The new ROM upgrade has made a big improvement to the phone - especially the BT stack, so this might work fine these days - Mike
