Hi all,

Having never used a PDA before, this is prabably a stupid question, but here goes...

I was looking into getting the Acer N35, as I want a GPS device and a PDA (but it won't be heavily used so should do for what I need).
What I was interested in though, is that from what I read it comes with Pocket PC 2003, but not the SE edition, which means the screen can't be rotated. Here's the stupid question, if you play movie files back on the device, will it play them in 'landscape' mode even on the older version of the os ? or do you need the SE edition ?

Like I said, never used one before but would like to know....

They play in both Landscape and Portrait on my Mio168, using Pocket PC2003.

Talking of which, I have a .wmv file on my 168, which plays OK, but is a bit 'jumpy', both in normal or fullscreen landscape mode.

The video properties of this 75MB file which is on my SD card are:

Bit rate 705 kbps
Video codec Windows Media Video 9
Video Size 720 x 576

Is there anything I can do to get a smoother playback?

I think I've answered my own question.

Import the file into Windows Movie Maker, and then save it optimised for Pocket PC (Full Screen).

Sorted! Thumbs Up

yes, 705 kBps is way too high. Aim for 150 kBps or lower.

I see that running the movie through Movie Maker has reduced the bit rate to 231kbps, which plays much better, so I'll experiment some more.

Thanks for your help.
