Hi everybody,

I am living in Turkey, and there are no map data for TomTom Navigator (TTN) for Turkey. That is why, I plan to create TTN maps for Turkey. But there is no information for the map file format used in TTN.

I asked to TomTom Support for the file format, but they said me to refer to the FAQ about TTSDK. I searched the SDK manual, but not find any info about that subject. I found some API info and some file formats (itinerary and other files except map file) in the manual.

So, is there anybody who can help me about that subject?

iyi günler,

TomTom will NEVER tell you the map format. This is proprietary information, and is about how they make their money.

However, maps of Eastern Europe are in preparation, and they include Turkey. (They are similar to the old maps that TomTom RoutePlanner was using back in the dark ages).

No definite release date yet, but you could bombard support with questions about that - they'll have to answer to that one.

it has to be .ov2 format for tomtom5. there are some tools to convert from a text file into .ov2 format.

makeov2.exe (from .txt => .ov2)
dumpov2.exe (from .ov2 => .txt)

(just stick makeov2.exe into google and you will find them)

get your long/lat coords and a description in a text file delimted by commas, eg:

-1.00000, 53.00000, "Somewhere over here"
-1.50000, 53.22222, "Somewhere over there"

then use the makeov2.exe command line util to convert, then dump the .ov2 (and a .bmp if u wanna create a pic) into your map folder.

.ov2 is for points of interest. He's talking about maps. Completely different.

Hi everybody again,
Thanks for your help, the information you gave are very helpfull.

Also there are opentom (www.opentom.org) software which provides TomTomGo functionality on linux based pda devices, in open source mentality. opentom could have been reading the TomTom map data. I search the source code of opentom, but did not reach any track for reading map data.

Also, I have found an article in "http://blog.tmcnet.com/blog/tom-keating/voip/tomtom-maps-update.asp" adress, and some source codes in "http://www.tomtom.com/page.php?Page=gpl#5.4" adress. But they do not help.

Best regards...
