|
|
Hi
I am using a Leadtek wired GPS receiver (9813), TT5 & a Toshiba e350 PPC.
Is there a preferred order of connecting everything up & turning it on?
The reason I ask is because today I connected the power cable to the cigarette lighter, then plugged the power into the GPS receiver, then connected it to COM1 on my PPC, turned it on & loaded TT5.
It did not pick up any signals – no GPS device was found.
Then, after plugging it into my cigarette lighter, I tried plugging the power into the Toshiba PPC COM1 port 1st, turned the PPC on, loaded up TT5 & lastly connected it to the GPS receiver & it seemed to work.
Just wondering if that was coincidence or if there is a “correct” start-up procedure for this to work effectively?
Thanks

if you have incomming beams you need to untick it as it is using com 1 which is used by gps under start setting connections _________________ TomTom 5001 |

It could be that your car cig addaptor is not up to the job of supplying the power needed to run the PDA, GPS and charge at the same time, does the actual charge level drop by much when running like this? - also if possible diconnect the GPS unit from the set-up (most wired units have a seperate plug for the GPS) - does it start to charge when this is disconnected- the reason I ask the above is due to TT5 running the processor at nearly flat out speed - therefore consuming more power - another tip is try dropping the screen brightness, there is only a specific amount of power avail via the charger addapter (note this is not related to the cig socket as that could power loads of GPS units and PDA's at the same time) - Mike |
