|
|
Hi, I have been experimenting with friends PDA running TT5 not connected to a GPS. Running a demo route from Essex to Wareham Dorset UK I am routed via the M25 north as I would expect. All runs well until the demo reaches junction 21a at this point the demo stops dead and either locks the Ipaq 4700 or simply shuts down TT5.
My question is, has any one used this rout either for real or via a demo and noticed the same problem.
I am about to purchase this software but if there are problems on major routes I will have to think twice.
I look forward to your comments.
Thanks. |

How far, in miles, had the demo gone before it stopped. If it was about 80 miles, it's because the TT5 Demo mode only lasts for approx that distance.
As to why it 'crashes' I don't know. _________________ Richard

Thank you for the replies, I did run a shorter route passing through J21a and it still stopped.
No problem though as I am reconsidering using TTN5 or any other GPS as they all seem to be very poor. Shades of Microsoft? |

in my experiance tom tom 5 does shut down
normally when you get to the same locations
it does not seem to matter if you drive there
or view it on the map
example try and view
CR0 0 (Croydon) UK
Wickham Road
anywhere
if you get chance try and zoom in and out
before it shuts down
or
CR0 0 (Croydon) UK
Worcester Close
anywhere
then try and zoom in and out
mine then shuts its self down
im interested to know how may other peoples tt5
shuts down at the same location |

I like TT5 & TT3 as far as Sat Nav goes
only problem i get was it shutting down
but now i think i have solved that all going well
Simply by turning off the POI's that come preinstalled in TT5
try your demo with all POI's turned off in Manage POI
if all works well try it again with Some POI's turned on that you require
if it fails to work remove some till it works trial and error
you can d/l replacement POI's from other sites on the web so no real hardship unless its an error in TT5 and not the POI's data base
it should not be to hard to test
if filling station shuts down TT5 then save a location or fav place filling station in TT5 and try and view on map or navigate there
if TT5 shuts down then TT5 software error if it works fine then error was in POI data base

Found these on map (using address not postcode). No problem zoomed in and out as much as I liked. Also set up advanced planning route from home to these without any problem at all. No shut down and works fine for me. |

Makes no difference on or off no shut downs for me - I drive through this junction every couple of weeks as a shortcut up to Wimbledon and never have any problems.
Tomtom is really stable on my x50v (maps on a 1gb sd card) - drive around 600 miles every week (sometime more than a 1000) with tomtom in use for 95% of these journeys and it never crashes.
