Hi everyone, complete newbie to GPS here. I have a Pocket Loox 410 and have been looking on eBay at setting up GPS on a shoestring budget. I've noticed there's several receivers out there around the £50 mark which look like they'll work fine with my PDA. Should I be very cautious of buying unbranded receivers on eBay or is there some positive experiences out there?
Secondly, I've noticed quite a lot of folk selling guinine copies of TomTom Navigator 2 and 3 on eBay for very reasonable prices. Some sellers openly admit to having upgraded to Tomtom Navigator 5 using the licence from their old copies. Is it ok to buy an old version from a licencing point of view? I don't want to end up with a useless second hand Tomtom Navigator 2 CD!
Many thanks in advance |

Upgrade disqualifies older product code. You should not be able to activate a new device with older product code. |

Well I guess that's good to know... better to find out now than buy and find out.... !
Although I'm trying to set up GPS cheaply I certainly want to stay above board, with valid product codes etc. Guess I'll have to shop around for a new copy |

Hi tonyk2005,
to the forum!
You need to be extremely careful buying second-hand TomTom software from unknown sources such as eBay. It is very much a case of caveat emptor!
I would go as far as saying never buy second-hand TomTom software. The most important part of the package is the unique Product Code, which together with your unique Device Code will give you a correct Activation Code for the software.
As CTHindi has already mentioned, if the Software is second-hand and the vendor has used the Product Code then you won’t be able to use it to active TomTom on your PDA. However you would also be unable to use it to upgrade to the next version if the vendor kept the details of the Product Code and used it to upgrade before you tried to upgrade.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to spend more time looking around. I've noticed some good deals from some of the advertisers in this forum - there's certainly a lot of options! I will pop back some time to let you know what I go with |
