Hello folks, new member here.

Recently I have looking into getting a GO, but being that I am in the USA, we are only offered the 300 and 700 models. While the 300 is adequate enough for my needs, I really like the Hands free-cell phone capability and unfortunently the 500 is not offered here in the states. Therefore that leaves only the 700. Now I would go for the 100 But the price jump from the 300 to the 500 is alot.
Therefore I ask, does anyone know if TomTom usually does this, by restricting certain models (like the 500) from being sold overseas or do they eventually bring all their models over.

This is a strategy decision, mostly targeted to reduce support costs. Do not expect the 500 to be actively offered in the US. The same is true for TomTom Mobile, by the way.

Of course nothing is stopping you from buying the device in Europe and getting the US maps separately.

After re-reading my post, I incorrectly mentioned "Now I would go for the 100 But the price jump from the 300 to the 500 is alot. " what I meant was, for an additional 100 dollars I would buy the 500 but the price difference between the 300 and the 700 is a bit too much.

As for your reply, I guess I can do that. I would have to check to see if there are any power supply issues between the European model and the US one.

Thanks for the reply.

the power supply works on either side of the pond (it's autosensing). All you need is a adapter from Euro to US power plug.

It doesn't matter much anyhow - any standard iPAQ 5V power supply will do.

GO500 comes with AC adapter, including US plug.
Buying a GO500 and an additional SD card with USA maps + shipping costs could come very close to the GO700 price

yes, but the 500 is the superior machine because you can easily swap maps and use smaller maps and do other stuff with it too (a la Opentom)

Once 4GB SD cards are out this will be one more point for the 500...unless you want to fiddle with the CF hard disk in the 700 and replace it with a bigger one.
