So, I've got all the names and addresses in an Excel sheet (with postcodes).

Using streetmap.co.uk to convert postcodes to latitude/longtitude, no problem here.

It making an ov2 file that I can't grasp.
I have the dumpov2.exe and makeov2.exe programs.

Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. here's my workflow...

Once lat/long codes have been obtained copy n paste list made in Excel to Notepad and save as 'mylist.asc'
Then drag 'mylist.asc' on to 'makeov2.exe'.
This produces the .bmp file, but no ov2 file.

first line of database =
528326,178447, "Belgravia - Pimlico Rd"

Have I typed something wrong?
I've tried with and without a space between 'the comma and "Belgra'. It make no difference.

I think it's down to something in Notepad I'm doing wrong, but any help would be very kind.

Thanks
Dave

Try a blank line before you start and two spaces before entry and between entries and commas.

Here is an asc created by dumpov2 from an old MyCameras for you to have a look at. Obviously semicolons are for comments.

You must make sure that you don't already have an ov2 of the same name in the folder you are working in or makeov2 will not create another one.

; Readable locations in MyCameras.ov2
;
; Longitude, Latitude, "Name"
; ========== ============ ===================

-3.03950 , 54.24807 , "Unnamed road, Bouth - (77/47)"
-2.98882 , 54.25440 , "A590, Backbarrow - (61/37)"

; 2 record written, 1087 deleted bytes ignored, 0 bytes not processed;

Thanks DeeSee

Still no joy. Tried the blank space and 2 spaces between point and comma.
Just get the .bmp file and no ov2.

Your sample entry from your first post looks suspect.

Quote:
528326,178447, "Belgravia - Pimlico Rd"

The entries for makeov2 should be Longitude then Latitude (minus sign signifies West).

You have no decimal point (ie 52.8326). Have you created your list using OSGB co-ords? If so you need to convert them to Lon/Lat.

Search for OSGB converter.

Your end product should look like this

-0.152941, 51.490694, "Belgravia - Pimlico Rd"

That's right next to the wc's, centre of Pimlico Rd, you are using the wrong coordinates from StreetMap, on the web page below the map image, there is some adds, just below that in quite small print there is

Quote:
Map Data Copyright Collins Bartholomew 2003

Use http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=528331&Y=178478&A=Y&Z=1 to link to this map.
Location is at 528331E 178478N (N51:29:26 W0:09:11) Click here to convert/measure coordinates

Click the 'here' on the last line of that for the correct coordinates that you need for the data you are making.
