Hi - hope someone can help me. I just bought a TomTom Go 300 and have tried unsuccessfully to download the speed camera database - despite following instructions to the letter. A colleague told me that I needed a bigger SD card, so I bought a 256mb one. But although I copied my data onto the new card (yes, I did back up my original card first!), the new card won't work in my TT.

My original card still works (no cameras), but even when I make an exact copy of it onto the new card, the new card won't even boot up. I just get a red X symbol on the screen, indicating that there's something wrong with the card. Any ideas/suggestions most welcome ... oh, and if you can help me with the speed cameras too, I'd be eternally grateful!

Sorry if I'm asking obvious/daft questions - I'm a complete novice at this!

Cheers.

Hi Chris - no I didn't format the card - just stuck it in the slot and hoped for the best (doh)! I don't have a card reader - assume I can format SD cards via TTG connected to my PC, in a similar way to the old-fashioned floppy disks?
Thanks

Have you also tried copying single folders over to the new card one at a time.Instead of cut/paste the whole 128mb card to your 256 card at one go that may help

Hiya - it's a Panasonic ... after I bought it I realised that some brands don't work with TTG, but Panasonic is't listed, so I'm none the wiser unfortunately! I'm going to try the tip of copying folders one by one instead of all at once.

There's definitely something amiss, as when I connect the TTG with the original SD card to my PC, my PC recognises the device as a TTG. When I connect it using the Panasonic card in my TTG, it just recognises it as a "removable disk". Hmm! The plot thickens!

Cheers

That COULD be just because the original card has been given a name "TTG" or whatever. What exactly are you seeing on the PC that makes you say "my PC recognises the device as a TTG"?

Hi Andy - I see it when I look in Windows Explorer - it lists the various drives, and shows a rather cute little picture of a TTG next to the 'F' drive! I dunno how it does it, but it's clever!

Hi if you can see the tomtom go as a drive double click it you will see a folder with the map of Great Britain double click that and paste your speed camera ov2 and bmp files into it, you will have the cameras on the map then.

Sparkey - His problem is that the card is not being recognised by the Go even before he puts the cameras on.

DSA- the picture comes from "tomtom.ico" which is on the root of the card (ie not in any folders)

A couple more thoughts:-
1) have you tried reformatting the card and starting again yet?
2) Have you made sure that you have got Windows explorer set to show file extensions and hidden files?
In Explorer, go to Tools menu / Folder Options / View Tab / and in the Advanced Settings box - click on "Show hidden files and folders" and UN-tick "Hide extensions for known file types".

Copy everything across again and check the list of what you have on each card. Don't try adding the cameras until we've got this bit sorted. Smile
