Nice forum guys. Okay, I'm totally new to satnav, but became addicted the other day when I was in my friends car as a passenger. He has a Navman PiN570, couldn't believe how accurate it was and the fact that it actually speaks the directions!

Anyway, he told me to buy a Navman over Tomtom as he knows two people who have Tomtom and they are always complaining about them.

On his word I looked on the Navman site and like the look of the iCN520 as I will only be using it for the car and for navigation purposes so I don't need a PDA with games of chess and calender features and lord knows what else.

The major point is that I use an Apple Mac computer so the CD software must be compatible.

Is the iCN520 any good, are the Tomtom range twitchy and unreliable, if not, what is a good Tomtom and will it work on Mac, in fact with Navman work on Mac?

Cheers forlks

I think you will struggle to get MAC compatibility with GPS install software. That is not a big issue though, as Most of the GPS sytems come ready to use out of the box. You would only use a PC infrequently for things like map upgrades, or firmware upgrades. Since PC use is infrequent, you could always use a PC at work, or borrow a friends PC for the infrequent uploads required.

Your friend said the tomtom is "unreliable", I know from this forum that the Navman ICN range also has reliability issues. I think all GPS systems do to a point, they are complex machines. I would suggest you read the Navman ICN and Tomtom Go forums to make up your own mind.
