newbie Palm TungstonT3 & TT5 navigator bluetooth problem

OK please treat me gently, I have tried searching and most queries seem to centre around TT5 upgrades, the story so far

I bought legit s/h copy navigator 5 but could not get it to load on PC or my Palm T3, on cotacting TT i was told I couldn't re-register this so I returned it and got a refund.

I have now purchased a full sealed version but am encountering exactly the same problems and cannot activate the product registration information.

on the palm -

The unit is recognising the blootooth GPS, first time install I accessed the preferences fields, then it dumped me into a "cannot find maps screen" and that is it, I have tried soft and hard Palm reboots - zippo difference.
launching navigator just dumps me at thi smap screen, with or without teh GPS unit switched on, with SD card in read only or write modes

On teh computer,

Running the CD set up - skips the Palm palm software screens and dumps me at a cut down menu screen with no install options. I tried deleting the TT setup file from ../local settings/temp/..., but it just does the same thing.

Pulling my hair out with frustration using this overencrypted software

Any suggestions as to what residual files are corrupting my attempts to set up my new software??
