got a reply from garmin re: how much space is available for storing POI's. i was surprised at how much!
"Good Morning,
Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.
In regard to your email, the i3 has around 15mb of additional memory
remaining on the storage card for POI's etc if you go over the amount
allocated you will receive 2 messages informing you whether you wish to
proceed.
If you have any further questions please let me know."
15MB??! woah!! considering the data for speed camera's (all), tescos, sainsbury, asda and mcdonalds only amounts to 350kb...
now all i need is a file for the morrisons of the uk, oh, and burger king would be nice ;) |

got another email when i asked about the 15MB:
"In regard to your email, approximately 15mb of space is for audio and then an additional amount is taken up for blocks on the card (This will happen on all storage cards). There should be a minimum of 2mb but it could range up quite away. I hypothesize 8000 to 16000 custom pois in 2mb. There are a lot of variables that play into how many you get."
so, audio uses up some of this 15MB but still, 2MB of text is quite a lot of data!

PS - can a moderator move this to the "Garmin Streetpilot" thread... |

Just uploaded over 26000 POIs into mine with 56kb of bitmaps - all in about 9 seconds and no probs. I just wonder how many more I can cram into the thing! |
