Hi all,

Well my first post here on pocket gps.

I have a GO-300 and when on holiday over the weekend i went to use the GO-300 and all i got was cannot find or read maps.

I have now just plugged the unit into my laptop and checked the SD Card in the unit. all i am getting when trying to access the Great_Britain-Map is ' The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable' does anyone know what is causing this.

Sounds like a problem with the SD card.

Did you make a full backup of everything on the card (over 100 MB) when you first bought it?

If so, re-format the card (or buy a new - possibly bigger - one) and copy the contents of your backup folder onto it.

If you *haven't* got a backup - or *only* backed up your personal settings rather than the whole thing, you'll need to contact TomTom to get the card replaced - because the files you need are *not* on the supplied CD.

I can only format the card using 'FAT32' as windows wont let me format using 'FAT' and i have copied the Backup back over to the card and updated TomTom GO Software to the latest version from tomtom website. Seems to work. I will now test with the external gps aerial

will the card work ok using FAT32 or should i use FAT

Also whats the best 256 MB SD Card to buy that will work in the GO-300

You can format the card in TTG while connected to a USB ports (so that it looks like an external disk) - or in a card reader - it doesn't really matter.

I believe that TT supplies cards in FAT format - but earlier posts have suggested that FAT32 also works - so it probably doesn't matter.

There are lots of places to buy SD cards - many quite cheap. I bought something similar to this http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_4_401_40105&products_id=27882 from 7Day-Shop for my Classic and it works perfectly well. They also have Sandisk branded ones for about £18 - but there's nothing wrong with the one for a tenner. Since they're so cheap, you might consider getting a bigger one in case you go touring in Europe.
