ok you are all gonna be laughing and have been asked this so many times before but i'm new to navigation and not brilliant on computers so if some one has 5 minutes spare to explain a few things to me i'd be really grateful!
I have recently purchased a hp pocket pc and tom tom navigation pack from pc world, (they aren't any bloody help either!) which is shown below.
however i have no idea what tom tom version it is (all it says on the box is HP IPAQ 1710 and tom tom navigation pack) and would like to know how i get the speed camera database installed. i was told i needed a larger SD memory card which i have now bought (256mb) and need to download some software called checkpoint first? (remember you are talking to someone with little computer experience!)
please could someone tell me how i get it all sorted please.
Thanks

Hi lee_havard,
to the forum!
I think that the TomTom navigation pack (with the iPAQ rz1710) is version 4.xx. It looks similar to TomTom Navigator 5. You can check your version number by:
Tapping the screen once (to get the main menu)
Change preferences
Scrolling through the pages for “Show version”
What’s your version?
If you do have version 4.xx then CheckPOInt is no good to you. There’s a version of CheckPOInt for TomTom Navigator 3 and another version of CheckPOInt for TomTom Navigator 5. However an SDK (Software Developer’s Kit) was never released for TomTom Navigator 4. Hence no CheckPOInt for TomTom Navigator 4. Sorry.
All is not lost, depending on the version of your TomTom if you have the following in your menu:
Main menu | Change preferences | Manage POI (or Maintain POI) | Warn when near POI
Then you have the built in Proximity Alert, which you can use with the free PocketGPSWorld camera database.
By the way, a larger SD card is always useful. It’s best to use a card reader/writer to copy the entire contents to a new folder on your PC and then copy the entire contents of the new folder on your PC to the larger SD card. Don’t worry about this yet.
Let us know what your TomTom version number is and we’ll try and get you up and running with the PocketGPSWorld camera database.

Hi lee_havard,
There are some guides that should be read (in the following order):
Try the guide for TTNav 5 it should be similar to your TTNav 4.40.
The beginner’s guide to the PocketGPSWorld camera database.
This explains about the different camera types and about categories and subcategories, so that you can decide how you want the database on your unit.
Depending on whether you have TomTom Navigator on a Pocket PC or TomTom GO, please read either:
How to install (camera database) POIs to TomTom Navigator 5.
This guide explains how to load the PocketGPSWorld camera database onto a Pocket PC running TomTom Navigator 5.
How to install (camera database) POIs onto a TomTom GO.
This guide explains how to load the PocketGPSWorld camera database onto your TomTom GO.
The above guides may look lengthy and complicated when first seen. However if you grab a cup of coffee and read each one thoroughly then they should make sense as they have been written in a step-by-step way, for ease of reading.
