I am a new member - this is my first posting.

I have had the above Pocket PC GPS for 3 months and it has gradually deteriorated so that no positional fix can currently be obtained. Before I return it for repair/replacement can anyone tell me how the nmea data (saved using VisualGPSSce) shows that the satellites are in view (this of course varies with time but is, I believe, accurate) but no satellite signal whatsoever can now be obtained. An example from today is:-

$GPGSV,3,1,10,29,75,302,,26,59,293,,28,47,110,,08,46,061,*76

i.e. each srv's signal is completely blank - no wonder I can't get a fix.

What I want to know is does this satellite position information come from some internal or downloaded almanac i.e. not real-time, or is the unit receving the satellites? If the latter, as I assume somewhat dangerously, then how come no satellite power is being received? I believe the aerial or whatever it's called is somewhat lacking.

Can anyone explain please?

have you tried a soft reset, or seeing if you can factory reset the gps on one of the menus - on the Medion 95000 (rebranded Mio168) Start - Settings - System - Medion Utility (have you got one that says MyGuide Utility) if so you may be able to reset the gps as the Medion can.

Sorry for the delay - internet access is somewhat limited for me. Having apologised and explained, I must now thank you for your prompt reply.

I have tried a soft reset - no change. The "utility" icon on my PPC only has "system", "smart battery" and "wake up" tabs at the bottom, i.e. nothing GPS related as above - if I could easily switch between nmea and sirf mode that would be interesting. Am going to try a hard reset prior to an imminent visit to Lidl tomorrow - I think it's a hardware problem.

Once again, thanks for your help.
