Hi

Can anyone explain why it is necessary to do a soft reset (Mio 168) after changing the SD card? Tomtom Nav 5 & Memory Map can't find their maps & even the PPC file explorer gets confused (displayed a directory from card 1 as if it were on card 2 (but when 'tapped' showed it as empty whereas on card 1 there were files in it) until after a soft reset then everything works correctly.

A soft reset seems to be required whenever the SD card is changed.

I have a HP4150 and have three cards for various uses. The machine will not recognise the new card untill soft reset. The same applied to my old Toshiba 310 [RIP]. It seems to be a Mr Gates generated 'feature' :D rather than something caused by Tomtom.

Thanks for that, I thought it was me at first until I found that file explorer would not read it correctly. Must be like swapping a hard disc!!!

I'll just have to remember each time.

I doubt its a windows related problem as neither my 4700 or XDAIIs suffer from this trait, all I do is make sure the unit is switched off when removing the card (which wakes it up) then de-power again to re-insert the new card, then you can get at the data on the card - I regulally "swap" cards betwen devices and have never had to perform a soft reset when doing so - Mike

That must be why then, I've disabled the 'Wake up on removal/insertion' of the SD card. I've tried it by switching on then off between cards (no card in slot) and soft reset is not required. This would suggest that it is a 'Windows' thing and it only registers a change of card when forced (i.e. after soft reset or after not finding one at all).

Perhaps I should enable this wake up feature. I had disabled it in the first place 'cause I thought it may damage the card but I suppose that if it did do damage then ppcs would not have this feature built in.

Thanks for that.
