help! cf reciever with time lag

Hi everybody.
I just got a CF gps card off ebay (why did i do that i'm starting to wonder!)
The problem is that compared to my old GPS mouse, trhere is a time lag which is annoying at 30mph, but a real problem at 70mph.
The card was only 35 quid, so my question:

Does this time lag affect all cf cards, or is it just cause i bought cheap.
Reason is because i might fork out for a decent cf card or go for the mouse type.

BTW the seller (nex_gensales) advertised a sbeing xtrac and sirf II, switched via a pinhole switch on the back. Pressing this doesn't make any difference to the lag. There's no name badge or instructions or even a box, so i can't look this up on their website.

the receiver seems to be set to Xtrac. have another go, try to set it to standard mode. Make sure to also use it with NMEA protocol, not SiRF.
