mio 168 and gps receiver and tt5

playing around I have found that if i select to use the tomtom gps receiver in tt5 the satalites are found quicker on startup and i appears to be a stronger signal

any comments?

I've seen quite the opposite happening with machines like the Yakumo Delta 300, the Yakumo Alpha 300 and all the deriviates. (Acer, Mitac ...)

All in all, reception has become somewhat pickier with TT5. As test, I just put 2 Delta 300's (identical to Mitac 168) besides each other. One had 3.07 running, the other 5.1. On 3.07, I get to see 10+ sats at full strength quite often on these machines. I've yet to see a full bar on any sat, and more than 8 fixes simultaniously on TT5 (or 5.1 for that matter).

In all cases, the 3.07 picked up more satellites in a shorter timespan : this is independant of "device orientation", as I put the TT5 in "normal" mode to have an honest compare.

Once you fire up the TT5 in landscape and use it in a car, the differences become far bigger. When not using an external MMCX antenna, it's clear the reception on TT5 suffers from the not-ideally oriented on-board antenna when used in landscape.

Which is why I think the new Yakumo DeltaX 300 with its "twistable" antenna will be better suited for TT5 use in overall.

Not quite what I was asking, but thanks for your input, what I ment was forget about pda made and model, when you setup the tt5 software for the first time, you have to configure the gps receiver. At first i was told to use the other cable nmea gps option, but since have changed it to think it is using the tomtom cablr gps, which i find to be more accurrate and faster at finding the satelites at startup

I agree. I've played with both in the last couple of days. For each, I did a soft reset and then configured for both options to compare> The Tomtom option definately found more satellites, and faster. I even get a fix in my lounge.
