Hi - just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.
I live in an area full of saftey cameras - I've noticed that a few of the POI's, although accurate (i.e. a camera is there) are too far away for the TOMTOM "alert on route" setting to work.
Has anyone else experienced this? how often?
I'm thinking it might be better to turn this setting off for now if this is common. _________________ Thanks,

You must turn off the 'Warn Only If On Route' since some of the cameras are set some distance from the road and may not be picked if you have warn only if on route.
Oh course this also means you will get alerts from cams not on your route but better to be safe than gain points on your license. _________________ TTG 300,External Aerial

Looks like that is what I'll have to do - is this a common problem (i.e. with the Camera positions in relation to the road) with the POI data at the moment?
You're absolutley right though better safe than sorry. _________________ Thanks,

I believe so, but to be honest so far I have not missed any when I had the setting on. I only turned the setting of about a week ago because some people were getting zapped by cameras because TTG did not warn them even though the camera was in the database.
The same people said with the setting OFF they got a warning the next time the went the same route, but also warnings when a camera was not on route.
Still as I said better safe than sorry. _________________ TTG 300,External Aerial

Thanks - I'll switch it off.
It's not worth the risk - shame it doesn't work that well it's a good idea. _________________ Thanks,

I'm not refering to the database here - I agree it's very good and it's also accurate - it's saved my licence a few times. :D
I only wanted to know if other people had noticed camreas being missed with the warn on route setting on within TOM TOM - just wanted to make an informed decision on whether or not to turn it off.
Opinions welcome................. _________________ Thanks,

Agree with everything you've said.
I usually leave "warn only when on route" ON, but wish it worked a bit better!
It's not really Tomtom's fault as some of the locations in the database ARE slightly off the road (differences between how different manufacturer's units log them?), so Tomtom can miss them.
I've never seen an official mention of how wide the window is, (someone here suggested something like 10 metres?), but it would be nice if TomTom could make it a bit bigger, or adjustable.
You can also send in corrections when you find a camera that's off road.
The other thing to remember is that if you are just driving around with no route set, and "warn only when on route" is ON, you don't get ANY indications. I'd like to see a third option along the lines of "If route is set, warn only when on route, otherwise always warn" |

Tried it on the way home with the "warn on route" switched off.
Much better :D . It will be interesting to see if TOMTOM make this feature configurable in their next release. It would also be good if they allowed you to configure the warning in "seconds before camera" like poi-warner. This way your speed will not affect the timing of the warning (I'm thinking about motorways here mainly). _________________ Thanks,
