|
|
I have used TomTom3 and now 5 and the one observation that I would like to make is surely it would be better for us if the rest of Europe would impliment a Post Code scheme like Britain and the Netherlands. If I have identified the correct destination that I wish to travel to then TomTom will by and large get me there.(Post Codes my saviour) My major disasters have been an incorrect entry, which I thought was correct at the time. Surely this is a long overdue European harmonisation that no one would complain about and would make life easier for stupid people ,like myself who cannot read maps. Why has this not happened before and what can be done to change this anomoly.

Most European countries do have postcodes - it is just that TomTom haven't implemented them yet

I presume that money ,will be the problem then, when TomTom have not incorporated this most efficient addition in getting you to your proper detination. Why only Britain and the Netherlands for post code incorporation. Cairngorm |

Although most European countries use postcodes, I think that only Britain and the Netherlands use ones which are precise enough to pinpoint a location to within a few houses. Many other countries use 5 digit codes, each of which may cover a huge area. There is unlikely to be any standardisation as the codes exist for the convenience of the delivering PTT, not for anyone else, so they really have no incentive to go to the huge expense of changing their postcode systems. _________________ Kam |

I think a harmonisation that's much longer overdue is a common language for Europe, or actually for the world, for that matter. All the existing languages suck, though, English in particular is a pathetic excuse for a language.
I'll make up a new one, I'll call it Desperanto. I'll keep you posted! :D |

The trouble is that we are so generous in the UK that every time we had visitors to the shores we tried to make them feel welcome, by including words that they were familar with, into our language.
The end result is that it is everybody elses fault. _________________ Richard

Not so.
As Kartracer says only the UK and Holland have postcodes that are useful. Even in the US zip codes relate to a huge area. In europe entire villages and towns share the same postcode.
I assume that if you would want to take this further you would need to petition your MEP who would then take it to the European Parliment. They would then pass a law mandating that all EU countries change their address systems in a manner that nobody will ever understand based on the Japanese model which has proven to confound even the most knowledgable people over there cant find addresses. We would then all go away and implement different systems (except the UK as we would have a veto) and none of it would work properly. _________________ Mike Barrett |
