Hi I did sumthin Stupid, I cleaned the screen on my tomtom go with aerosol foam clean, and found the spray got betwean the outer and inner membrane, causing a big ugly spot covering a third of the screen.
Has anyone got a fix\ stripdown procedure for the screen.
I expected their to be a seal their somewere, Doh!
Any ideas appreciated as I totally wrecked it.
Regards Mark... |

If you are adventurous enough take the bezel off, carefully pop the screen out of the chassis (I mean *carefully* - there is a flex at the bottom going to the motherboard, if you pull this one out it will be a complete stripdown job), remove the metal frame, remove the rubber seal, separate the touchscreen from the LCD with a scalpel. Might require recalibration afterwards. Disclaimer: you are doing it at your own risk. |

:D Thanks a million for info, im an engineer, and it was still a challenge, but now like brand new.
I feel its a bit poor that I could wreck the thing that easily, I found the seal when dismantaling the thing but its hardly hermatically sealed.
anyway, result Cheers |

Well at least you didn't do the same as a colleague of mine.
I was called to look at his brand new laptop as the screen was "poorly"
When I arrived at his office I found out that he had desided to clean his LCD panel with some CRT cleaning wipes. The wipes are designed for glass and are pretty rough. The plastic coating on the LCD panel was covered in nasty fine scratches that could not be removed. I couldn't remove the plastic layer either as that was bonded to the glass.
The new LCD panel was almost 400 GBP....a very expensive mistake !
Another problem we have had recently is little "thunder" flies getting into our LCD minitors between the LCD and the front glass plate. The little blighters wander arounf=d the screen whilst youre typing which is amusing for a while, then annoying followed by VERY annoying when they die in the middle of your screen !!!! On a 1000 GBP LCD monitor I soon my sense of humour. |
