I've just ordered a Dell Axim X50V that I'll be using as a GPS on my motorcycle. I'm looking for a mount that will secure the PDA *very* well. I've looked at the Arkon mount, and this mount here:
http://www.extremepda.com/page/XPDA/PROD/MOBILEPACKMA

But I can't tell how securely it will actually hold the PDA in case a good bump or jar occurs while riding. I definately don't want to see my new PDA flying down the road after a bump! ;-) Anyone have any experience with the ExtremePDA mount? It looks as if it may work for me as long as it'll actually hold the PDA securely enough.

Hi Ron

Firstly, let me declare that I do not ride a bike (motor or peddle!)

I do have a car and go over some rough ground from time to time.

I have the Dell Axim X50 (not the 50v) and use the Arkon mount. They do a motorbike version...

I was slightly concerened, like you about the PDA falling out of the mount. For normal use the mounts are fine. The Arkon unit has thick pads that grip the PDA on both sides. To add extra security I cut deep grooves in the (rubber?) pads on both sides. Now, there is no way that the PDA woll be shaken loose.

The following pic is a view from under the mount. On the left side, you can see the thick pad that grips the PDA & you can see the cut-out groove. I removes about 50% of the material.

Hope that helps

Donald - Thanks! That method looks like it would work for the ExtremePDA mount as well.

Steven - I didn't see anything specific for the Dell X50, and the generic mounts didn't really look motorcycle friendly to me. I'll be connecting to a RAM ball mount, but again, didn't see anything. If there's something I missed, please post a link to let me know.

Thanks again,
Ron
