Hi all,

I registered on this having just received an automated reply from TT about my install hassles - absolutely no help whatsoever. I was a happy TT user since Nav 2, but with this release I detect real problems within the company. Has it grown too big? Reorganisation or changes in staff? Customer care is very poor at the moment.

Anyway, here are some things I have dealt with - hope it helps someone else out there. p.s. Although I've been a PC user for some time, I am still pretty much a newbie - its all invisible techie stuff to me!

These are a couple of extracts from my emails to customer support.

"I had to install the map first to beat the 'memory' bug and I had to factory reset my PDA to rid it of the Nav 3 GPS, which did not uninstall and seemed to stop the new one working".

"The install utility is a nightmare"

"Menus are messy and uncluttered - there is nothing intuitive about having the post code feature on page 2..."

"I noticed why my voice files were disappearing - they are named .chk files - sharing the same extension with Windows file fragments. This means the voice files conflict with a number of utility programs out there!

With PDAs and using MS activesync, you can sync the files in 'my documents' (the default setting). The trouble is that popular utilities like Cleanup and Tuneup then search this folder and delete the files, presuming they are check disk produced fragments. On your next sync you are left with no voice files".

He hee. Very good. I should have posted this on the Nav 5 thread and copied it across. Embarassed

As it happens I am thinking about doing just that - we have a new car and I like the idea of using the permanent install kit coming out soon - sure beats the £1600 the dealer wanted for an integrated system and I reckon it’ll look pretty cool as well..

Despite the hassles with Nav 5, I wouldn’t want to leave home without my GPS.

For anyone who is interested we will have a Permanant Docking Kit at the GPS Meet. It wont be working, but you will be able to see the bits and bobs that go into connecting the whole lot up.
