Hi,
Looking on Ebay there are a number of Bluetooth lithium battery powered GPS units for about 50 quid. They mainly use NEMERIX chipsets.
Are they any good? |

I just got one (FedExed - bought on Sunday, arrived yesterday).
It's locked onto 6 satellites sitting on the window ledge in the house.
Battery looks like a normal Nokia one, but helpfully it comes with a cigarette lighter adapter that has a USB socket - so I can charge it from my laptop!
Usual joy setting up Bluetooth, but it seems to be working fine.
However, if anyone can tell me how to turn it and my PDA off without messing up the Bluetooth connection I'd be grateful - at the moment I seem to have to delete it and re-add it each time, which is getting very boring! |

Think I have one of these gps as well however cant see to get it to connect.
I am using a HX2750 with Tom Tom software.
What problems do you have connecting the bluetooth and how do you know that its connected. I have done the usual pairing of devices etc.
So far the gps has sat on the windowsill for about 25 mins and found nothing. |

I had to spend ages fiddling about with the Bluetooth - Bluetooth tech is pretty poor to start with, and the MS implementation in WM2003 seems to have gone backwards as well.
Initially I had some sucess with it using the COM port it created - COM port 4. However, I had to enable that in the Bluetooth settings screen.
It seems to be more reliable using the Bluetooth GPS settings I outlined above. But Bluetooth is still pants.
One thing I would try is taking the battery out, leaving it for 12 hours, then putting it in and charging it fully, then bonding etc. while it is still plugged into the mains.
Oh, and assume you did turn it on and didn't turn it back off again by mistake - I did to start with 'cos the lights are a bit confusing. That was embarassing.
It might be worth removing Tomtom and seeing if the VisualGPS thing can see the satellites first ... |

Oooh, PS
If you want to know if the GPS is communicating with TomTom, on the GPS screen you will see little black dots crawling back and forth between a satellite dish icon and the car icon. If you don't, you don't have a connection and need to keep trying different settings ... |
