All,
Has anyone been able to determine who is the map supplier for the new version of Navigon?
Worryingly, looking at the CeBit report, I noticed that a TeleAtlas logo was displayed on the exhibition stand photograph. Surely, this isn't a good sign.
From what I've read about the TeleAtlas Maps on the TomTom Go Forum, it still appears that they're well behind - but is Navteq still on board??

I agree with spudson, comparing the TelaAtlas that came with Medion 4.2 to the older Navteq that came with Navigon 4.0.1, the Navteq is far better. Using the older map in the newer software I get far less nonsensical instructions to head left when its showing me right, and the fatest routes are better. With the TeleAtlas it will often pick A roads through the middle of built up areas, where as Navteq sticks to dual caridgeways and motorways which are quicker even if a few miles further.
Cheers

Received version 5 last night and can confirm that the map material is definitely by Navteq. It also includes the M6 toll!! |

So Huey,
Come on then - let us in on the secret, how good is v5? Is it as ChrisHall (in another thread maintains) appear to be just new map material or is it something worth splashing the cash for?
Cheers

Sorry, for the delay in replying I don't visit the forum's as often as I should. Basically, I bought the upgrade from version 4 purely for the new maps with the surety that I was also going to be keeping the TMC functionality.
In operation v5 is not that much different to version 4 although they have prettied the interfaces up a bit and the buttons (which were far too small in v4.) have also been increased in size. However, a few downsides
1) there is no satellite number on the icon so you can't tell how good your fix is. To get this information you have to click on the satellite icon. Why they did this beggars belief.
2) TMC does not work. Although I get a full lock on the classic FM signal there are absolutely no messages coming through. I reinstalled v4 on my pda and it has no problem picking up the messages (I am presently trying to figure out if I can cut and past the TMC files across from v4 to v5 but early results are suggesting that this is not possible).
3) There seems to be quite a positional lag. Not sure if this is down to my setup though so perhaps other v5 users could comment.
On the good news front, it does have the M6 toll.
IMO I wouldn't bother with the upgrade unless you want the new maps and do not presently use TMC. I bought the modular receiver and even the aerial splitter as the TMC service was a godsend and has saved me a lot of time in v4. To then find that they have removed this and not told anyone is very poor and bordering on outright dishonesty.
I am very disappointed with the release and had I known in advance that TMC was not available I wouldn't have bothered with the upgrade in the first place.
A friend of mine who was also using version 4 with TMC has cancelled his upgrade. I would urge anyone else who used TMC before to do the same thing. [/list] |

I have just phoned navigon and they confirmed no TMC in the latest release. As my order was still open i cancelled and have asked for my money and previous software to be returned. I suggest everybody else do this so these companies get the message that they cannot chuck out updates just to coin in the money.

I noticed that also. I use this sw for a week now. I thought this happened because they do not pay so much attention to Greece. The arrow is always behind my car. I turn first and then it speaks. It's hillarious. I have used route66 athens navigate and it worked OK with my setup(ipaq 2210,pretec gps-lp). If anyone wants to use a navigation sw at Greece only destinator has extensive coverage and sufficient amount of pois. Cheers, Dimitrios
