|
|
If you have been following the thread see link below, titled Have I been a Chump, you will know that at last I have got a Map of France for my GO 300 on SD card and everything is now working.
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=21497
I do however have one query that I would appreciate some assistance with. Can you plan journey abroad whilst sat here in the UK. I know it may seem like a pretty dumb question. However, what has made me ask is that I have inputted a couple of addresses in France, but what I get is a message saying no usable Satellite fix or unable to get a fix for this location etc. which means that I cannot view a route in advance. Am I missing a trick here? Just how do you plan a route in advance - do you just have to trust to luck that the addresses you have selected work when you get across the other side of the channel? |

This may seem like a daft question, but how do you use POI's to find a hotel in the area of your destination if the TomTom cannot find a useable sat/link so does not provide a route for one to view e.g. I wanted to find a hotel for an overnight stay around Orlean - how do I get the TomTom to find one? |

Hi Faust,
Browse map (Main Menu 2 of 3)
Move and rescale the map to display the desired area.
Tap the icon to the right of the magnifying glass
Select Find nearby POI.

Although I have been able to put in a route and find a hotel at my first destination under POI, because I get the message "no usable GPS signal from this location" it is not possible to see the route prior to travelling, which is a bit of a bummer. I just hope that when I get on the other side of the channel everything works as planned. It may be possible to do this planning if one lives in the SE of England, I'm not sure, however, it certainly is not possible from the Midlands.

I am sitting in my house in Watford with 0 Satellites available. Using either/both "Advanced Planning" or "Itinerary Planning" I have just set up a route within Austria. Once set up it appears on the screen. Click "Route" button bottom left and choose how you want to browse the map.
I've just watched a demo of a route through Innsbruck. |

Not on my SD Card Map of France it doesn't. I have already stated what happens on my TomTom. I have tried every permutation known to the menu but it states cannot calculate route as no usable satellites. Are you using a card or maps from CD? |

I have to say that I am getting concerned now following what sgould has said. I get two messages when trying to navigate a route either using advanced planning, itinerary planning, or just choosing navigate. The messages are as follows No valid GPS signal or no usable locations near GPS position despite the fact that I am sitting here with up to eight satellites locked. As anyone else tried to view a route using information straight from another country on SD Card? |

Well that is spooky, after trying unsuccessfully for hours to show any routes, the blasted thing has started to do just that, only minutes after asking you guys for assistance. I think this TomTom has a life force of its own and is taking the p---! |

I've just checked again with my France map and the route planned just the same.
However, I seem to remember getting the your "No valid gps signal" when I planned ahead on occasion when I was in France and tried to plan a route for the next day across Germany. Most odd. |

Has anyone tried to put more than one map on their SD card? I was going to put the GB and France Map on the one card rather than use two. However, when I did a test run of this on the PC a message came up "a file with the same name already exists, do you wish to replace it YES, YES TO ALL, NO". Having gone to all this trouble to get the France Map I do not want to corrupt the files - anyone carried out this procedure? |

I have the following maps:

Major roads of Europe
France
Germany
Austria
Benelux
Switzerland
1GB card with 823.6 MB used. No problems. |

So when the PC warning sign came up saying files of this name already exist do you wish to overwrite them YES, YES TO ALL, NO, what did you do? |
