Bluetooth GPS Range

I have just gone through 3 Bluetooth GPS receivers with various faults and am now awaiting yet another replacement.

None of the faults were Bluetooth related yet with each unit the bluetooth reception range was vastly different, from only 1 metre to a maximum of 4 metres.

Now, as I understand it, since both the GPS and PDA are Bluetooth ver. 1.1 class 2 they should have a range of 10 metres line of sight.

I would welcome any comments on the normal reception range to expect.

I am curious what type of bluetooth GPS you have?
Normally, class 2 claim at 10 m with free of obstacle.
However, it's enough for using in the car!

It's a Socket Bluetooth GPS Receiver (black) recently purchased from eXpansis.

Not all BT devices have the same range, manily due to the different antennas used.
Different PDAs also have different range.
Compatiblity also plays a part, though not significantly.

I agree!
I laready tested with dongo plugged in NB , the signal stability not stable , in PDA it more reliable!
In one word, pairing need two sides:transmiiter, reciever

You dont belive this: i have been tested with HP2210 outdoor free .
The distance up to couple times of 10 meters ;the NMEA sentence is still sending out and satellite signal still exist and avaliable!
Do you believe this?
It;s real in my test case .

Then one, or both, of my devices must be faulty.

Will have to try and determine whether its the PDA or the GPS.

i guess the root cause maybe come from the bluetooth trammiting is troubled with something inside GPS houseing

Will wait for GPS replacement then if problem still exists try to borrow another PDA and test with that.

I discovered what the problem was.

During all testing for range I was holding the PDA in the palm of my hand. This was shielding reception of the Bluetooth signal. With the PDA held only at the base the Bluetooth reception was still good at 10+ metres.

So line of sight does mean exactly what it says. No allowance for hands in the way!!
