Ok so I am a bit sad wanting to get some new voices instead of Tim and of course the lovely Jane, but as they are now available I thought, for a few Euros I would.
Half way through the ordering, I halted. Where are these going to be loaded, on my old SD card ? Or may be I should wait for the new map upgrade card ? or is it downloaded onto the device itself ?
Help someone ! |

These go into the same folder as the program. So it depends if you installed the program to main memory or storage card.
You can always copy them from one storage card to another if that was your question. _________________ Lutz

Actually with Version 5 the voices can be either in the main application folder or in a folder called strangely voices.
It is our understanding that the voices will only work with the device that they were downloaded onto. TomTom have introduced encryption with version 5. The same is true with the POIs as well. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Wow - slow down guys !
I bought TomTom because of its simplicity.
I didn't install the program to the storage card or main memory, I just inserted the card and away I went ! so on that basis where are the voices automatically installed ?
And Mike, do you mean that it is the device (i.e. the hardwear, your Tom Tom) that is key not the version of maps and SD card you have. If you install new voices and then change storage card (new maps for example) do the voices remain.
Appoligies if this is simple stuff, but the more I think about it the more questiona I have. |

I didn't know that the Plus Voices would be encrypted. I don't think this is a smart move... The support calls will tell.
Forget my comment about main memory - that's only valid for Pocket PCs/Smartphones, not for the GO.
On your card the voices are installed in the \tomtom folder _________________ Lutz

The fact they have started encrypting everything to make a fast buck will only do 1 thing, bring all the hackers out in force.
Being a flashable linux unit its not going to be very hard to do. |

This has nothing to do with the GO at all. It is a common data encryption across all plattforms. _________________ Lutz
