I have just returned from France and while there I used the itinerary function in TTN3 extensively. I compiled some very complex routes on minor roads and it performed flawlessly. When stopping for coffee or a meal, I did not shut TomTom down, but just switched off the PDA and removed it out of sight when leaving the car. Then, when I plugged it in again and switched on, the itinerary just carried on without any problem.
On one occasion however I closed down TomTom and did something else with the PDA over lunch. When I came back to the car, I could not get the itinerary to work. When I switched on and restarted TomTom the part of the itinerary I had already completed was greyed out, but I could not find out how to make it resume. I tried reloading it from the stored routes, but it tried to route me back to the start. I then tried disabling the waymarks I had passed, but the start did not appear on the list of waymarks so it still wanted to go back there. By this time I had to press on, as I had 200 kilometres to the ferry and 2 1/4 hours in hand, so I just asked it to take me to Calais and followed the quickest route. But I would love to know how I could have picked up the unfinished part of the itinerary!

Didn't get a reply to this the first time round. Anyone got any ideas?

My only comment is that I would always recommend exiting TT whenever external power is going to be lost.

Could you break the journey into a series of smaller itineries? That way, if something went wrong, you could resume from the next itinerary?

I've got this to work on the one occasion I needed to by using a rather roundabout fix. I have not had cause to do it more than once so cannot make any guarantees.

Start the PDA without having the GPS turned on. Load itinerary and click on Navigate. Because TT cannot find the GPS it will ask if you want to plan the route from the last known position. Say NO and TT will repond that the route will be planned once GPS is available.

Exit TT and turn off PDA.

Turn on GPS, let it stabilise (a few seconds)
Turn on PDA and let Bluetooth start (if you are using Bluetooth)
Load TT and once the GPS is synched with TT it picked up my itinerary from my current location Smile

Thanks Mike, I'll try that should I be in the same position again.

In reply to bl, I agree in principle that it's a good idea to exit TomTom. But I don't have bluetooth, and in the past it has always resumed an itinerary without problems when used in the way described.

When just operating in Navigator mode, exiting the program before switching off is my invariable practice, but when using an itinerary it can cause problems, as it did on the occasion described.

I didn't have time to play around, so I just said "Take me to Calais" and followed TTN's route - I caught the ferry!

I think your approach to disabling the 'passed' waypoints was correct. Having done that, you presumably pressed the PLAN button? At that point, the system usually asks where you wish to start from, which can be your last valid GPS position before you turned off the system. Or you can specify a statrt position.

When you disabled some of the waypoints, was your START position (original) still live on the itinieary? This could account for it wanting to take you back. Pressing PLAN as opposed to say NAVIGATE may have been the key to your problem? By pressing PLAN you do start afresh.

Hope that helps

Yes, that could have been the problem. When in navigate mode the start point is not shown, so I could not delete it. But if I had changed to Plan, I would have had the chance to specify a new start position and, presumably, the original start would have appeared enabling me to disable it. I must try breaking off part way through an itinerary once again, when I am not pressed for time, and try your method
