Hi all
I need some help with this one.
I am trying to plan a trip to France on my 510; I have loaded on a 512 SD card, European base maps, the map of France & the lower half of the UK.
I have in favorites my destination, I select it and it calculates. It then gives me an Orange band across the top of the screen with this message.

Application Error
CODE\NAVIGATOR\GUI\UNSTABLE\APPS\GUIEX.C
Line:554 Test: GET_WINDOWS (RES) = = NULL
Cannot Create 936 Instance Already Exists.

The screen also displays “warning” about Ferries, but it is frozen. The only way out of it is to reset the unit. & clear route when it is recalculating the route.
Any help, anyone.
Regards.
DRP

Has the unit been operating correctly up to now?

Have you tried re-installing the maps?

Are you trying to navigate to a destination in France via a ferry route that is not shown in total on the screen? For example.......you cannot check out a route from London to Madrid via Plymouth to Santander because the mapping does not show the complete ferry route.

Do you have a GPS signal at the time?

Can you navigate from point A to point B within France using......map>cross hairs>"Set as Start Location">map>cross hairs>"Navigate To"(that being somewhere in France)?

Hi ST
Powered up GPS & I navigated from Calais to the South of France. That works ok. But it will not navigate a route from the Uk?

I haven't got Northern France loaded onto my unit at the moment so I can't run a check for you until tomorrow. Have you got the "Avoid Ferries" check box ticked? That will prevent you from doing what your trying to do.
I'll have a play tomorrow and give you my response.

DRP,

Having loaded "Northern France" ; "Paris and Ile de France" ; "France Ferries" I can put Dover and Paris into my "Favorites" and using "Trip Planner" check out the route from my house via Dover to Paris without any problems (with a GPS signal).
Without a GPS signal I can check out the route from Dover to Paris using "Set as Start Location" and Navigate To".
Has your unit loaded "France Ferries" which is 335.5KB on it's own?
I don't think you can check out a route that includes a ferry route unless the ferry route is shown in it's entirety on your display and certainly not if the "Avoid Ferries" checkbox has been ticked.

I agree with ST's comments.

Briefly:-
You cannot plan a route which has breaks such as France to (say) Austria without having the Basemap or other linking regions..

You cannot plan a route which does not have appropriate Ferries loaded such as London to Paris without the 'French ferries' (or even other X-channel ferries). There must be a link.

You have to also check that there are no 'avoids' such as ferries.
Again the route must link

The handbook is quite good most of the time so long as you speak Kiwi. Just takes a little time to get used to it - pity there's no more detailed index. Could be worse. Wink

Makes sense really!

Hi All
Hi ST
Thanks for getting back.
This is what I have on my Sd card.
Sothern England, UK Ferries, East Middlands, Wales & the West, Northern England, NW France, French Ferries, Northern France, Paris & Ile de France, NE France, W Central France, SW France, S Cent France, E France, SE France. Total 42.9 MB.
V3 Europe Basemap, v3 world outline. These are both on sd card. Should they be on the sd card or on the internal memory as I only have 13.6 MB of internal memory available.
I tried navigating from Dover to Blois using Trip today still no joy.
I think I will format the SD card & reload every thing & see what happens. I will post a reply ASAP as I need to use the unit tomorrow.
Regards

This is the same bug as I have found on my ICN 630 V3.

Turn off "warn if using ferries" and the problem goes away.

Hi all
I have not formatted my SD card as yet as I played around with the 510 last night and found that if I un checked the French maps, but left alone Eng & French ferries, also base maps of Europe I can trip plan, my continental destinations with easy. Loaded my destinations into Favorites using French maps to give me an accurate destination. (local roads)
After reading the manual a number of times I think it say’s that if you are in the UK you can plan your continental route via base maps (major roads). But on reflection I cannot run a French route with my ipaq V2 & 2210 BT, unless I am on the other side of the Channel.
Thank you all for your help, I will email Navman & see what they will come up with, but I hope that they still monitor this site & may have the answers to my questions.
Regards
DRP

Hmmmm! DRP, just for interest are you located in the UK? Looking at your equipment you don't mention the software version of your iCN510 - is it V3?

Mention these two subjects as it could be you are using a US bought unit and using V2 software. Perhapos I'm wrong 'cos I'm not having your problems and can plan a route direct from the UK on my model. Question

Hi all
Just took JaguarV12E's advice & hay presto I can route from home to Dover then to ST Tropez then home via Calais or Cannes in time for the film festival. Will put it to the test in the next few weeks.
