|

On asking about the whereabouts of the 'map upgrade program' on the Tom Tom site (mentioned in the blurb on the v5.00 firmware) I received this response from Tom Tom.
Quote: | Thank you for your email.
TomTom has now made available the system update v5.00 and the map upgrade will be following in the next few weeks. Please keep an eye on our website in the next few weeks for further confirmation on the upcoming map update.
We hope to have answered your question to your satisfaction.
With best regards,
The TomTom Customer Support Team |
Presently, it looks like it'll be a downloadable program; cost or whatever, I don't know. _________________ Cheers, Doc L.

The maps will not be downloadable. They will be offered either as a CD or pre-installed on an SD card. The upgrade cost is yet to be published. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Mike, the reason for my query to Tom Tom was the mention (in their site) of the map Upgrade Program. This is for existing Tom Tom users having older version maps.
I take this to be a program for upgrading the present old map versions, and not a download of a complete, new version, map. In other words you will need the old map for the upgrade to work on.
At least that's what I understood from the TT site and they haven't intimated differently in their response.
As you say, complete, new maps will come on SD cards &/or CD's as before. _________________ Cheers, Doc L.

This will be a complete reissue of the maps. I think TomTom actially mean Upgrade Program in the sense of Upgrade Procedure.
The structure of the TomTom mapping data make it a requirement for the entire map set to be updated. _________________ Mike Barrett |

You will be needing your old map's productcode to obtain the updated maps on CD's or SD.
The old productcode will then be disabled, you will receive a new code with the new SD or CD's. |

Thanks guys . . . . . eerh I think!
Looks like they mean an upgrade programme (or process) rather than upgrade program on the computer.
Blimey, can't even trust the Dutchies to write correct English now; what is the World coming to??? _________________ Cheers, Doc L.
