Magellan 315 to PC conection - HELP

I have finally purchased the PC/power cord to update my ver2.03 GPS. I have connected the PC plug to the COM1 i/p and cleaned and connected my GPS. Now what? The baud rate on the GPS and PC are both set to 9600 and the rest of the settings are the same. The NMEA is off but I've tried every setting to no avail. Meanwhile the updater program is running and scrolling thru all BAUD and COM settings. I've tried balancing on one foot and reciting the alphabet backwards. Didn't help! What am I missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
