Ok this might be a longish post, but hey i reckon the more detail i give the better advice i will hopefully receive !

I have just landed a job driving all over the country, never having had a driving job before without some form of GPS im gonna be stuffed !

My main concern is that there are a bucket load of different GPS systems available and i really dont have a bloody clue where to start. ive tried reading up on here but all it has done is drive me mental and make me drink beer from the fridge !

Basically I dont have a massive budget and i dont mean that im expecting to get GPS on the cheap as i do know the costs involved. All i want is a GOOD reliable and as precise a system as i can get. Im not really fussed wether it comes via a PDA system or not although i do have a Nokia 3230 which has only just been released and if im right in thinking it is a symbian 60 series or above ?

I would be interested in buying a bluetooth bolt on for my nokia 3230 if there is such a thing alternatively ill have to go down the PDA or stand alone unit route.

Please please give me some wonderful advice or im just going to ditch the idea and get drunk :-)

Cheers in advance

Paul

Hello Paul

I think what you are asking is like a mine field, there are so many units and different configurations that it's up to personal choice, just have a look at a web site like :

http://www.totalpda.co.uk/

I am not recommending them, just that you can browse all the different combinations, have a look at TomTom Go for an all in one dedicated system, or Mitac's Mio168 that's a PDA/GPS unit combination and can be bought on its own, or with different GPS software, with TomTom v5 around the corner it will not doubt be available with that software soon.

Ok i think i have narrowed it down to a few choices now

http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=ACER_N35_GPS

http://www.totalpda.co.uk/TomTom-Navigation-System-with-HP-iPAQ-1710.aspx

http://www.totalpda.co.uk/Mitac-Mio-168-GPS-Pocket-PC-with-Destinator-Software.aspx

http://www.totalpda.co.uk/Mio-168-GPS-Pocket-PC-with-TomTom-Navigator-3-Software.aspx

I forgot to mention my budget yes, but im looking at around £300 MAX maybe a few quid more for the right choice.

I know its all down to personal opinions but out of the choices i have listed above, if you were buying yourself with the purpose of using for a driving job then which would you choose ?:

Cheers again and im sober today :-)

Hello Paul

Out of the systems you have listed, (this is just my personal choice and not a recommendation) I would go for either the Mio168 with TomTom or the HP-iPAQ 1710 again with TomTom.

If you read the forums as I am sure you have then you can see what other people think of those units an how well they work.

Yup !

That was the choice i was leaning to myself.

Plus maybe im wrong but i think £239 + VAT is a pretty good price.

Cheers for your help it really is appreciated

I'd concur with the others that the Mio168 is the best of those and a good solution. Running TomTom Navigator you will be able to use our safety camera database Smile
