TomTom N4 Palm car cradle

I have my second TTN4 on a Palm Tungsten, the first having been returned when it intermittently refused to recognise the wired TT GPS aerial unit.
The second kit is showing the same problem, only very much worse. Initially all seemed well and I attached the power to a fused supply under the dash rather than using the cigar lighter unit. All seemed well and it navigated me to various places in Southampton with ease. Switched it on again today and it refuses to find a GPS unit.
Can anyone advise if this is a common problem with the TT Palm car kit, or am I just plain out of luck?

I think that you are unlucky. I have an irritating rattle in my cradle, but it has never had any issues with connecting to the GPS via the serial port.

On the other hand, I might just be lucky!
