I need to take the plunge into GPS after being given an XDA IIi from work. I see so many different devices and personal opinions...and now I need more of them.

So which is best with an XDA device, wired, bluetooth or SD. The SDIO sounds appealing but then I can't have another SD memory card installed so would have to have map segments (is this correct?).
I hear Bluetooth is great at draining batteries (is that true?).
Is wired a better performer?

And then, which is best for mount/charging?

Please forgive me for asking all of this - I'm sure someone else must have somewhere, if you can point me to the right place to read all the answers that would be great! Thanks.

Nowadays we mostly recommend Bluetooth. It may drain batteries a little faster but the advantages far outweigh that. Most importantly - you can break the link between the user wanting to view the device screen and the GPS receiver wanting to see a nice big sky.

With a CF/SD receiver you need to compromise on the positioning and may lose memory slots (unless you buy a combo card). With a wired receiver you're confined to in-car use. Bluetooth it is is if you ask me.

Thanks for replying Ibendlin. I was leaning towards the SDIO but the issue of occupying the only slot in the XDA was putting me off.

Now I need to find the best value BT device!

Cheers
