pocket pc os question

can someone please explain the different os
ie: arm, arm2002, sh3 etc and which i need for a mio 168
sorry if its a dumb question

First there were the dinosaurs

then came Windows CE. This operating system was available for ARM, MIPS and SH3 processors. versions went from 1.0 to 2.1, and it worked on handheld PCs (landscape) as well as Palmtop PCs (portrait)

Then there was Windows CE 3.0, and the called it Pocket PC 2000. It still ran on all three processors, but only on Pocket PCs.

Then came Pocket PC 2002, and only ARM processors were supported.

Then they called it Windows Mobile 2003, for ARM and Xscale processors, and also only for Pocket PCs

In parallel Windows CE (.Net) continued to support other processors, but those devices were not called Pocket PCs, rather Embedded devices and standalone devices.

Your Mitac has a Xscale processor and Windows Mobile 2003. You can't change this. When you download software you need to take the ARM version (Xscale processors emulate ARM processors)
