Hi, Does any one agree with me that using a hard drive may be problematic due to vibration. I know with the advancing technology things are getting better but still! With SD cards theres no moving parts, if they gets corrupted they are eaisly replaced. I understand that a 2.5GB hard disk is alot cheaper than 2GB SD Card. Could anyone verify this for me. I may upgrade later on 8) |

Hard Drives are usually ok. Most are MicroDrive based and are designed for shock, even more so than Laptop Hard Disks. However, they're still not meant to be dropped, or jolted.
For instance... I wouldn't personally use them on a mountain bike if I knew I was going dirt tracking. I also wouldn't use them in an environment where condensation could build up easily.
If you bear this in mind, then you should get good solid use out of them. Saying that, hard drives have moving parts and are prone to failure, more so than Solid State Storage like SD's and CF's, so if you want an ultra reliable system, then go for something which utilises SD or CF. |

I hope all the users of the 700 make sure that they have a strong suction grip on the windscreen mounting. Although I try to make sure that mine is firmly attached, it has dropped off twice.
I would hate to think what would happen if the hard disk was processing information when it bounced onto the dashboard. |
