hi,

can someone tell me if a tomtom wired is rechargeable?

Im guessing it isnt!

Im concerned about having to have the recharge lead permantley connected to both the pda and receiver ie the PDA constantly being charged - not good for battery!

thanks

Mark

No it isn't. To be honest I have a 2210 that is in a car cradle 5 hrs a day and has been for 2+ years and it hasn't suffered any ill effects. The battery still holds a good charge.

Many thanks Darren.

That confirm why after leaving the receiver plugged in all day via a car batterycharger didnt make it work once i unplugged it!

Instructions which came with say "make sure its fully charged" !!!!!

It does have a small lithium cell inside which charges and is there to power the memory that sores the Satellite Almanac and Ephemeris data.

It's a coin type cell and so a charge would typically last weeks if not longer but it won't power the receiver although it explains the 'keep it charged' reference.

Is it really a problem? I thought ipaqs were designed to work off AC power for long periods anyway. i.e. When the battery is fully charged it shuts off charging it and just works off AC power alone.

I would have thought that Mark has hit the nail on the head here, otherwise why supply a cradle for the unit to sit in for long periods on your desktop? If there was a problem with this it would have said that the cradle should only be used for syncronising the PPC to the PC and for charging.

I reckon that the same holds true for the unit when connected in the car - certainly seems so with mine anyway.
