Hi
I am new to GPS and PDA's. I have a dell axim x50/Globalstat bc307 cf receiver/tom tom 3 software. Everything installed ok as far as I am aware. I think my cf receiver starts ( it scrolls thorugh a lot of goblly gook). When I start Tom Tom I can plan a route but I am advised that the GPS position is unreliable. I suspect that there is a setting somewhere preventing the software operating properly but I don't know where. Please help.
Louis

click on:
start, tomtom GPS
Or

Start, tomtom navigator, tap on the screen, more, GPS status

Click on GPS in the bottom left and change the com ports to (make sure GPS is plugged in:

TomTom Navigator GPS
CF_Generic

and put a tick in the box, if it does not allow you to chang the com ports untick that box.

Hi

Thanks for this but I cannot click on the tick box and select settings as indicated. I downloaded a programme call Winfast Navigator and it basically tells me when I insert the cf card that it is installed on COM4 but when I try to select this port in Winfast it advises that it couldnt open the serial com4 port.

anything older than tomtom 2.07 will lock the com port on the PDA and not allow any other GPS program to connect, i dont know if this is what is causing your program not to connect.

Ok, thanks for the reply.

Have you tried CoPilot Live 5? It looks to be a better option.

I use both an SDIO and BT GPS units with TomTom 3 on the Dell Axim X50. They both work (with minor issues), but I've no CF unit to test.

You say that when you run TomTom GPS and select the GPS tab that you are unable to click on the tickbox and select the options. I'm unclear what you mean by this. Do you mean that clicking on the tick box has no effect? It should toggle between ticked and un-ticked.

When the box is ticked it locks the setting, and opens the port. To change the comms settings the checkbox must be un-ticked.

Tried the X50 with a BC307 CF card and Copilot today, and it works perfectly. Copilot detected it all automatically and was up and runnig very quickly with good sat reception too.
