Hi all, posted a while ago with some questions regarding PPC GPS, and I received some help from a user called Dave I think. Anyway Dave, if you’re still on here, I took you up on your recommendation for the 4700 and purchased. Fantastic device and I just love the controversial touchpad when using landscape mode. Cheers

Ok my questions

Question 1
Im aware of the debate over tomtom 3 and co-pilot live 5, but I really can’t decide which. Do either company offer trial versions of there product?

Question 2
I now need a mount for the PDA and have been looking at brodit holder, but I don’t need the extra speaker, as I know in my car I will still not here it, so im going to wire into the amp. So can anyone please tell me if this tomtom holder is any good? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=75327&item=5756918559&rd=1

Question 3
If I purchased say tomtom 3 gps and software plus the cradle as shown above would the gps and cradle still work for Co-pilot if I decided to change software?

Thanks for your time

Hi Artizan,

Which country are you located in? Please update your profile as it helps us to help you if we know where you’re based! Thumbs Up

If you’re based in the UK then I’d choose TomTom Navigator. I think the GUI of TomTom is superior to that of CoPilot. I also think that TomTom is more intuitive to use than CoPilot. At the moment CoPilot has more up-to-date maps than TomTom, but Cebit is only a few weeks away. Cebit is the traditional time for TomTom to announce things so keep an eye out.

1. The only company that I know offers a trial period is Mapopolis.

2. I don’t think that you can go wrong with Brodit mounts, especially when coupled with their ProClip for your vehicle.

3. Nowadays, companies tend not to lock their software to hardware on the PPC platform. CoPilot should work with that cradle, GPS receiver, and Hx4700.

Regards,

I use a "Free Cruiser" mount with my 4700 - it is amplified and works great with the PDA - secure and easy to fit / release - try ebay and look for vita.systems based in Southampton - cost including postage was £34 - various addapters avail to change the mount accross to suit different PDAs - worth a look at - Mike
