Howdy folks. I recently bought a Dell Axim 50v Pocket PC and am looking for a GPS solution. By the way I’m very happy with the Dell - setting it up has been painless with no problems other than a short in the headphone jack (I got the trade-in repair rider so they will be trading this one for a new one). I’ll be using the GPS feature for driving about in the States, but the more interesting and challenging use I have in mind is in wandering around in Asia for a few months. The Axim should help me out with my Mandarin and I would also be using the GPS while walking around cities for navigation and creating a travel website with GPS waypoints along with photos and videos. There does not seem to be much in the way of maps for Asia so I investigated Oziexplore as a solution which allows one to use any map or satellite photos which can then be synced with one’s live GPS position. It appears to me that the ideal hardware and software are not bundled so I seem to be looking at greater expense (but greater flexibility). I always seem to find myself on the bleeding edge of technology… anyone out there with experience in this area, whose wounds have scabbed over care to express an opinion? Am I making this harder than I have to?

There are actually a few street maps available for Asia. Check PaPaGO.

I think you are aware that Ozi is a topo program - you need to scan maps and calibrate them yourself , or use precalibrated maps. but those are truly for hiking, not for street navigation.
