I currently own a hpIPAQhx4700 and would like to get a portable GPS. i am some what new to this and could sure use some help. i would mostly be using the product in a vehicle but 15 % of the time outdoors. I have researced this web site but confusion follows the more I read. i did read the review about the syson chip reciever but also read some folks were unhappy with this product. It sounds like a nice reciever and the size factor suits my needs. Any comments on this unit or any other similar size unit. I currently own an earthmate reciever that came with delorme software. It is quite old and has the serial 9 pin so time to update. i also have a current copy of microsofts streets and trips. i am assuming alot of the map software that gets mentioned here is much more powerfull. mabey time to update this as well. Also i see packaged products with reciever and software any advatages to purchasing this way verses buying seperate products. Here is some other data that may be helpfull.

1. I live in the USA so mostly driving here and occasionaly Canada.
2. Are their any recievers with a small form factor and SIRF 3 technology.
3. Ease of use and setup.
4. Accuracy.
5. Updatable ?
6. Spoken commands on turns and such.
7. Dependable.
8. Would help if compatable with outlook.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SiRFstar III products aren't widely available yet, to my knowledge. There are a few designs around - these include the new Bluetooth GPS that TomTom have shown off with the forthcoming TomTom Mobile 5 product.

Be aware that you're talking about two things - software and GPS hardware. Increasingly you can buy these two things separately, though you may get a better deal if you buy a bundle. Some software packages only work with a particular GPS.

As I'm in Europe, I'll leave more detailed advice to our North American readers - though be aware that there's many products that will meet your requirements. Don't forget to look at our reviews section - Lutz has reviewed quite a few US-centric products.

Thanks for taking time to answer I guess I will just keep reading and try to educate myself on the subject.
Thanks again.
Respectfully
