was originally going to buy a road angel
then found out laser detect was a waste of time
so £400 for a gps speed camera seems alot
if i'm reading things right the 510 will work aswell as a road angel and with free updates, is this correct?
few questions:
does it show speed trap mph limit and what your doing?
how far in advance is the warning?
does it alarm reguardless of your speed?
are blackspots(van hideaways) covered?
cheers in advance for dumb newbie questions but this is a minfield
overall looks great product and more userfriendly than a pda system which would frighten the wife

The 510 can make use of the PocketGPSWorld Safety Camera Database and as long as you install it properly, set suitable time and distance warnings and have a valid GPS signal it will work as well as, if not better than, most GPS based SCD systems.

I say "if not better than" because my hardware SCD (Snoopeer S6 R-Neo) doesn't include redlight cameras, whereas the PGPSW database does.

Currently the speed part of the database is in its infancy; there is a long way to go before this data is complete but certainly a fair few camera positions have speed data. These can be associated with a speed icon, so if the camera is in a 40mph limit, you get a 40mph icon on your screen.

The distance and time settings are controlled by you from within the SmartST mapping application that comes with the iCN510.

It will warn you regardless of speed.

Known blackspots are covered in the "Mobile" database. There are also databases for Temp (roadworks, etc.), SPECS and Continental cameras.

The data is not guaranteed and is only as good as the data we get from you, the user. However, it is good enough for me to say that I won't be renewing my Snooper subscription when it expires.

cheers tim think i'm getting close to making my decision
was thinking of mounting unit in ashtray void in a merc and using an extra aeriall for a more permanent look
do you see any problems with this idea?
personally i think it looks better than tomtom and can be used handheld
speed limits will be a great improvement when it comes, dosnt the snooper do that?

I would recommend the 510 for this aspect of the "Locations" of all the Safety Cameras that are likely to cause any unwanted flashes.
The Info to download is a little tricky use for a novice computer user but full instructions can be found on this site. Also if you get really stuck with it, most people on this site will help you, as they did for me.
My 510 is all set up with all updated locations of the safety cameras and i have given my self about a quarter of a mile warning, they also display them on screen well before the audible warning, so you can't really go wrong.
In the city centre's the 510 gets "busy" with all the cameras etc.
And finally, not wanting to sound like a bore, people should really drive at a reasonable and sensible speed.

Indeed, but I don't think I'm alone in believing that there's a huge gulf between "speeding", i.e. exceeding the posted speed limit, and "inappropriate speed", i.e. driving too fast for the prevailing conditions.

For instance, I consider driving past a primary school at kicking out time at 30mph far more dangerous than driving past same school at 04:00 hours at 40mph.
